i just bought a pair of pvc trousers for part of a halloween costume and i've noticed there is a small 'ladder'-like tear in them. its tiny, but it looks like the type that would split right open at the lightest bit of pressure. i didn't do this and i was in the right mind to send them back but i made some alterations already so i can't. like i said, it's tiny, and it looks like nothing a bit of glue wouldn't fix but something's warning me off using glue on thin pvc. any ideas anyone? i picked up some iron-on 'mending strips', anyone know if these would work?
I appreciate your dilemma, in keeping or returning the item. We recently bought something newly made, and have contacted the seller because one item hadn't been attached, with the prospect of doing it ourselves if they supply the parts. They have been fair, they will send the parts, but if we cannot fit them, we can still send it back, and they will do it.
Regarding your problem, I know of no glue which will stick to PVC, and I doubt the mending strips would work unless the PVC is fabric backed. What I would do in that situation is apply a PVC with fabric backing to the inside of the garment behind the tear, and sew it in place to reinforce it, and prevent the tear spreading. If you haven't got suitable PVC backed with fabric, some other tear resistant material could be sewn inside.
If the outfit merits it, you could sew an embellishment to your outfit to the outside at that point to disguise the repair/ reinforcement.
