I need a cute way to decorate my room a little better?
my rooms feeling a little dull. its purple with white trim. I have a white trundle bed with a bug net over it. i also have a white dresser and dest. I have a few posters up john lennon jimi hendrix and led zeppelin..some stars ..starry night..purple rug...well you get the point. i need a creative way to make it look cuter.
What about a paint technique in circles or cubes on one wall in colors in the same family as the purple.
Or add bold accents by using a complementary color - opposite on the color wheel. Opposite of purple would be yellow. But orange or light green would also make a bold statement.
Or you could use a softer lavender and free hand some whimsical wavy lines and curly cues going around the entire room like a soft breeze.
Super Bright Led Anybody have (or can design) a Knight Rider 12 LED Schematic?
A really tough question/challenge for those electronic savvy people out there:
I have 12 SUPER Bright LED's and a 12-Volt power source. Is there a circuit schematic available online that will let me use all 12 LED's and light them up like that famous Knight Rider car (KITT) from the '80's?
Notes:
---the LED's require about 5 Volts for max light intensity, but a little less is acceptable, so we can say 2V to 5V
---I have access to random IC's (LM555CN/NE555N/74154N) just to name a few, plus numerous resistors/capacitors/diodes (or buying is always an option)
---I have a good understanding of circuits, but I am in the early stages of being able to design them. So any kind of schematic will do (as long as it is clear)
---To make this an more challenging question, the preferred display involves the LED's to turn on (as it cycles) and to FADE off (just like the show's car)

How do you measure the reflective values of a source of illumination and an Inverted conical reflector?
My company, SunNight Solar, is working on upgrading our lights and we are exploring the optics and measurments when you place a super bright LED and conical inverse reflector, or two, (one up, one down) in a small lighting device? And what happens if you use a fresnal lens?
I`m buying LED diodes on ebay from Hong Kong for like 2$ per 100 in my country I get 1 super bright LED for 0,40€. So I really wanna know what is the difference between those LEDs that I buy on Ebay and those that I buy in my local store. There is no visible difference at all so where is the catch? Both suppliers are claiming that LEDs will last for 100.000 hours but I don`t have time to check that.
If anybody knows how to test LEDs for quality please help me.
Run the specified voltage and current through the LED. If it works, you're good. LED's are pretty foolproof. Just be sure not to run the current through them backwards or run too much current through them or else you might burn them out.
Even if there's still a few that fail, they're dirt cheap when ordered in bulk, so it's not like you're out a huge amount of money.

led/lcd better than plasma?
I am in the market for a new hdtv and was planning on buying a plasma since I game a lot. I went to best buy to look around. However, all the plasmas,compared to the lcds and leds, were super dull looking. I looked at every one and the whole picture looked very dull. The picture on the lcd and leds were very bright and colorful. Why is this? Shouldn't they at least be similar? Is it xause they were display models and on all the time?
They calibrated the plasma to look dull, and they
cranked the LCD TV's to it's full vivid picture, If
you ask them to let you test out a panasonic plasma
and let you crank the contrasts and colors, it will
blow LED/LCD out of the water. Reason they do it
is because LCD/LED costs more money.
Led Bright White LED lighting too bright how do you work out which bulb?
I have some lighting that uses GU-10 Halogen lighting (I think its halogen). Anyway I got an LED replacement which is 1.3watts. Unfortunately it is far too bright even though it has a hole type filter over the end of the light. It is also extremely white in colour not more natural and yellow coloured like the regular bulbs. The LED one also gives me headaches when I go in the room with that light on, and is very blinding.
Can anyone tell me is there a recplacement led for the gu-10 that isn't as bright or white in colour? And if so what wattage do I get? I'm not sure what the wattage is on the regular halogens I have in, but what would be equivolent to standard incandescent of 100w, 60w and 40w bulbs if I am to get regular halogen or the led variety of gu10?
Technically, the light isn't white. It's three colours, red, green and blue. True white has all the colours of the spectrum with both LED's and fluorescents, multiple colours are blended together to appear white which is why some colours are not iluminated as they should be. Most of the so called white LED's used for lighting use phosphors much as a fluorescent light would to transform the single frequency output of the LED into several different frequencies, two frequencies (dichromatic white) being the minimum for the illusion of white light but with very poor colour rendering, three or four being preferred to illuminate multiple colours. It's probably the fact that it's not a true white that tends to give you headaches, if that's the case, stay away from LED or fluorescent lights. Halogen lights are actually reasonably efficient to begin with and their light is a continuous spectrum.

How many LED can be powered off a 12V car battery?
My friends and I have recently discovered a little hangout spot in the forest that backs onto my house. We're usually out until 2am and it gets quite dark, making it very difficult to walk back. We've come to the conclusion that we can use super bright white LED's to light up a pathway and a little bit around our hangout spot. My question is how many LED's could you power using a 12V battery. I know LED' can't go in parallel because of different tolerances and whatnot, but in series I'm guessing we can power 16 in a row? Then have strings of 16 in parallel to provide more light?
There is no change of running the power off the mains electricity, it must be battery powered.
...any advise would be greatly appreciated.
You probably won't get 16 LEDs. You will probably only get like 5 or 6 maybe....maybe a bit more or less, but that's a ballpark figure, and it depends on the LEDs as well.
Where I use to work we use to also use a current-limiting resistor of 10 Ω per string of 5 LEDs. This was not met with factual reasoning however. When questioned, it was stated that it was 'historical'. So, whether they served a purpose or not I don't know. It may have been overkill, but we never, ever blew LEDs and we pulsed them at currents way, WAY over their rating. At that time it was 20 mA max, and pulsed we maintained about 600 mA.
